William Hughes is an experienced executive, consultant, and industry analyst leading Guidehouse Insights’ Building Automation and Control solution. He brings over three decades of experience in technology marketing and strategy business planning with expertise in drawing insights from a variety of data sources, building valuation models, and preparing business plans and justifications.
Prior to joining Guidehouse Insights, Hughes led a consulting engagement for a large utility in the Pacific Northwest, helping to improve the business justification process for new IT projects. During his tenure, the utility approved and initiated projects for mobile workforce management, building management, multiple IoT initiatives, conservation program management, power trading, grid and asset management, and data analytics. He also served as a principal analyst at In-Stat and WDS-Xerox, where he prepared market analysis for the leading wireless carriers and many manufacturers, leveraging data analytics to provide meaningful insights to achieve higher customer satisfaction and reduce costs.
In addition, Hughes has held strategic marketing roles at IBM, GE, Motorola, and US West, and led marketing and business development initiatives at Advanced Radio Telecom, Zetron, and TeleCommunication Systems. A former adjunct professor, Hughes has taught business marketing to MBA students at Northwestern University. He has written over 12 books on a variety of technical subjects for John Wiley & Sons Publishing. Hughes holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a BS with Distinction from the College of Engineering at Cornell University, where he was elected to the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honorary.
