Smart city projects continue on the rise as city municipalities, corporations, and other stakeholders expand their interest in transforming city infrastructure and creating more livable spaces to improve overall city sustainability. Climate-influenced events are becoming more common, particularly in the last two years, putting pressure on governments to enact legislation and increase spending that will expand resiliency to combat future events. Thus far, trillions of dollars have been dedicated to transitioning cities and their infrastructure, so that they can become more compatible with a sustainable, climate-prepared future, incorporating smaller operating footprints and higher levels of resiliency.

This Guidehouse Insights Smart City Tracker focuses on historical trends for smart city projects in each of the five world regions tracked: North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. Drawing on data from Guidehouse Insights’ Smart Cities Tracker database, this dashboard considers 1408 tracked smart city projects between 2012 and 2023.
