Sustainability reporting trends and regulations are evolving rapidly. The European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, California’s SB 261, and an impending SEC ruling have put a spotlight on corporate sustainability reporting. As companies adapt to these changes, emissions targets are becoming more aggressive and reporting rates are quickly rising.
Measuring and reporting methods are not aligned among industries, however, and each company can decide for itself whether to have its results audited or verified by a third party. Different companies implement targets with varying success. This tracker provides an analysis of climate reporting and target setting so that industry stakeholders can better understand the landscape.
This third edition of the Guidehouse Insights Corporate Sustainability Tracker compares scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions as reported by 300 selected companies across 20 industries, for the years 2018 through 2022. It includes sustainability actions such as which companies have established dates for net-zero/carbon neutral targets, science-based targets, and achieving 100% renewable electricity. New in this edition, the tracker reports progress toward achieving 2030 targets and the value of emission reductions needed to meet these targets.
