Global Annual Sales of Advanced Logistics Vehicles Are Expected to Rise at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of Nearly 30%

Given the prerequisite of regulatory updates, advanced logistics technologies show potential to revolutionize transport of goods

Oct 30, 2019

A new report from Navigant Research provides global market forecasts of advanced logistics technologies, segmented by region and technology type, through 2030.

Delivering commercial goods to customers in urban areas has become expensive, polluting, and logistically difficult. As a result, suppliers in the transport and logistics ecosystem are developing and deploying innovative technologies to make shipping more flexible, efficient, and sustainable as it grows, and as online shopping rates increase. Click to tweet: According to a new report from @NavigantRSRCH, annual sales of advanced logistics vehicles are expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 29.7% through 2030.

“The next wave of disruption in commercial freight is likely to come from electric and automated commercial vehicles, delivery drones and robots, artificial intelligence, and blockchain,” says Ryan Citron, senior research analyst with Navigant Research. “Together, these technologies have the potential to revolutionize the way goods are transported through lower costs and improved speed and sustainability of delivery.”

Although many of the technologies needed for logistics industry disruption are maturing, significant barriers exist on the pathway to scalability. High upfront technology costs, consumer acceptance of new technologies, and regulations are among the largest barriers in the industry. Without major changes to existing regulatory frameworks, for example, it is unclear how technologies like delivery drones or automated commercial vehicles (ACVs) can have a path forward to widespread market adoption.

The report, Transport and Logistics Innovations Overview, provides an analysis of the ongoing transformation occurring in the transport and logistics industry, with a focus on ACVs, electric trucks, robotic and drone-based deliveries, smart logistics platforms, artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics, and blockchain. The study also examines the dynamic supplier ecosystem. Global market forecasts of advanced logistics technologies, segmented by region and technology type, are included for 2019-2030.
